Slides from Parent's Briefing on Formative Assessment

Week 9 : Mar 1 - Mar 5

First I'd like to extend my appreciation to the parents of Jenal, Jerrine and Claudia for helping out as parent volunteers. Thank you very much for your help! It was certainly an enriching week for the pupils as they went out to the zoo, health zone and Singapore Discovery Centre to explore and learn.

For these two weeks, we'd be having the formative assessments for Maths, Science and English. For preparation, it is sufficient to just do the revision of the topics learnt so far, as the formative assessments will also test the children's creativity and problem solving skills, hence it will not follow the usual examination style of testing. For Maths assessment, the children are only tested on addition and subtraction up to 4 digit numbers. Please also note that the Science assessment, which will be next week, is on Chapter 1 : Living and Non Living things.

For Science lessons this week, I will be covering the characteristics of birds, fishes and insects. (They will not be tested in the formative assessment)

For Maths lessons this week, I will be covering long division (TB Pg 87-96) I noticed that the pupils are quite weak at division so my recommendation is to give them more division activities at home using real materials such as seeds or buttons.

4. Some stationery such as pen, pencil and ruler
5. No need to bring any text books for that day, unless instructed by the subject teachers themselves.

DOWN with conjunctivitis

I'm sorry that I wasn't in school today, as I have caught a rather mean strain of conjunctivitis (sore-eyes) on Saturday. The doctor has given me MC to rest at home so that I won't spread to the pupils in school. I must have caught it from my son, who got it in his secondary school last Wednesday and he has still not fully recovered from it yet! My poor daughter is also down with it and her symptoms are even worse than mine - very swollen, painful and red eyes. She even had a fever yesterday. I'm putting eye drops every four hourly and resting my eyes as much as I can. I'm also on a course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medicine.

Meanwhile, please take care and stay away from crowds too as it seems that this sore-eyes is spreading around. Six of my son's secondary school classmates have already succumbed to it. You can still let me know if you have any concerns regarding school. Just email me at tan_keng_lee@moe.edu.sg or call me directly on my mobile. Thank you all so much for your support and understanding!
